Allison Segarra Hansen says she was caught off guard when she recently won the Indiana Latino Institute's Elevated 40 Under 40 award, and her name was pronounced correctly. Hansen, Marian University's assistant professor of education, won the honor October 20. "I realized how much this recognition means to me on a personal level," Hansen said. "As a bi-racial "No sabo kid," I've always struggled feeling ni de aquí, ni de allá. Receiving this award is a validation I didn't know I still needed." Soy de aquí Y de allá.
The Indiana Latino Institute created the award to recognize Indiana Latino talent in three different tiers of their careers: Latino Legacy Leadership, Rising Latino Stars in their 20s, and the Elevated Latino Under 40 award.
Soon to be the largest population of color in Indiana, the thriving Latino community has many members who have accomplished much, are leaders in their fields, and are catalysts in others' successes. Congratulations to our Shining Star Allison Segarra Hansen. We are proud of you!
