Congratulations to Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM) student Kamryn Benscoter, OMS-II '26, who won second place at the American Osteopathic Association's (AOA) Bureau of International Osteopathic Medicine (BIOM) global abstract award competition early October 2023.
Benscoter won in the narrative category for her entry "Honduras: A Mutualistic Experience," as the BIOM invites osteopathic medical students and residents to submit their global health research abstracts or narrative medicine essays each year.
"I am really excited as it was such an honor to be recognized for this achievement and, more importantly, to share the incredible experience I had this past summer serving in Honduras with others!" said Benscoter, who is also the national liaison officer for the Marian Student Osteopathic Medical Association and president of MU-COM's Global Health Alliance Student Organization.
The annual medical conference brought together thousands of osteopathic physicians, medical students, and other health professionals nationwide.
Benscoter won a $500 award and presented her entry virtually during the poster expo at the AOA's Osteopathic Medicine (OMED) conference in Orlando, Florida.
