Enhancing Opportunities for Scholars Intramural Grant Programs Shines a Light on Three New Projects

Congratulations to the newest recipients of the Enhancing Opportunities for Scholars (EOS) Intramural Grant Program: Dr. Kleio Avrithi, Ph.D., P.E., assistant professor of Civil Engineering, Dr. Pattie Mathieu, Ph.D., assistant professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Dr. Najmus Saqib, Ph.D., assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering.

EOS is a program that supports scholars across all academic units with the monetary funds and institutional commitment needed to produce high-quality research and scholarly activity. Faculty and staff are eligible to present projects meant to challenge and support the growth of their students, and the Research & Scholarship Administration in the Division of Academic Affairs selects which projects to provide scholarship funding for. The funds may then be used for any needs the projects require, such as supplies, fees, travel, student research assistance stipends/hourly wages, etc.
Below are the titles of the projects in which the recent recipients are putting their funds toward:
  • Dr. Avrithi: "Impact of Additives on the Hydraulic Conductivity of Soil"
  • Dr. Mathieu: "Investigating the Link Between Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Osteogenic Differentiation, Cyclic Tensile Strain and Cell Aspect Ratio"
  • Dr. Saqib: "Investigating Li+ Transport in Li-S Battery Electrolytes using Operando Spectroscopy"
