The 2025 Martin Luther King Jr., Day holiday had a special meaning for students, faculty, and community members who participated in Marian University’s sixth annual Transformational Leadership Conference. This year’s theme, “Dare to Persist,” inspired and challenged attendees to grow as transformational leaders while honoring Dr. King’s enduring legacy.
“The highlight of participating in the service was seeing the need of our community on a larger scale,” said Marian student Jadyn Akers ’27. “I was unaware of the vast need in our community and giving back through sorting items for families opened my eyes.”
The collaborative effort behind the conference included contributions from the University Ministry, Student Activities, the Center for Academic Success and Engagement, the Unity Center, and First Year Experience.
Tyler Paul, Marian University’s Director of First Year Experience shared his enthusiasm: “This conference is a cornerstone of our commitment to develop well-rounded leaders.” “By daring to persist, we’re encouraging our students to embrace challenges and push beyond their comfort zones, just as Dr. King did throughout his life.”
Drawing inspiration from transformational leadership research, conference attendees like Akers say they commit to persisting and creating meaningful change. By embracing the “Dare to Persist” theme, participants not only honored Dr. King’s legacy but also cultivated a vision of leadership that empowers individuals to drive positive organizational and community impact.
