Communication Students Win Big at Indiana Broadcasting Competition

Awards and certificates from the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters, featuring first and third place honors for radio work by students from Marian University.Three students from the Communication Department brought home four awards at the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters’ (IASB) 2025 college competition. The awards were announced during the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center ceremony on Saturday, March 29.

All winning projects were developed in courses taught by Dr. Jackie Liu, including Media Production, Digital Journalism, and Capstone.

Award Highlights

  • 1st place – Radio Air Personality: Sylvia Vanderburgh (Senior, Global Studies & Theology)
  • 3rd place – Podcast: Sylvia Vanderburgh & Mariangel Morales Aparicio ('24, Communication & Public Health)
  • 3rd place – Radio News Anchor: Mariangel Morales Aparicio
  • 3rd place – Music Video: Jordan Pohl (Second-degree student, Communication)

Winning student Mariangel Morales Aparicio shared her excitement:

"This was really unexpected, but it was a great experience. Even after graduation, I’m thankful for the opportunity to stay connected to a field that gave me so much."
