Marian University was founded in 1937 and welcomes students of all backgrounds who seek an educational experience framed within the context of our Franciscan Sponsorship Values, informed by prayer: dignity of the individual, peace and justice, reconciliation, and responsible stewardship. The roots of the institution trace back to St. Francis of Assisi, a 13th-Century Italian saint who had a profound impact on the Catholic faith.
Similar to most hospitals, the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences has a chapel, allowing our osteopathic medical students to grow spiritually throughout their educational careers. The chapel is a peaceful place for reflection and spiritual growth for all members of the Marian University and MU-COM community.
As a part of your training, you will be taught about spirituality in medicine, multicultural sensitivity, understanding the role of family systems in making treatment plans, as well as many other competencies. During your training you will learn how to be sensitive and respectful to the beliefs of patients, but not sway from your own moral, ethical, or spiritual beliefs in a way that respects and honor the dignity of each individual. This training will prove beneficial to MU-COM students and residents who continue their training in Catholic or other faith-based hospitals.
