Why study exercise science at Marian?
If you're pursuing a career in allied health, the Exercise Science major is designed for you. This highly customizable program gives you a strong foundation in human anatomy, physiology, chemistry, movement science, and both exercise and clinical exercise physiology.
Coursework & Academic Requirements:
You'll engage in a well-rounded curriculum covering key health sciences. This major requires general chemistry, so you'll need a background in high school chemistry and mathematics through pre-calculus. Many allied health careers also require physics, and if you haven't taken high school physics, you may find college-level physics more challenging.
Overlap with Other Majors:
The Exercise Science curriculum closely aligns with the Physiology of Exercise major, so you may want to explore both before making your decision. There’s also some career overlap with the Sports Performance and Nutrition Fitness Wellness majors.
Career & Graduate Pathways:
Most graduates continue to professional schools in allied health, with common paths including:
- Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD)
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)
- Doctor of Chiropractic (DC)
- Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT)
While other career opportunities exist, these represent the most common goals among Exercise Science students like you.
