Support for Scholarly Writing

The Research & Scholarship Administration is excited to support a thriving culture of scholarly writing at Marian University! We are here to help with a range of writing needs whether you are looking for professional editing services, to receive feedback from a mock review panel, or to join a writing support group. The following programs are currently active:

Through collaboration with The Writing Center, faculty/staff provides in-person and virtual options for professional editing services at no-cost to the faculty/staff member. Follow this linkto sign up.

Are you writing a proposal to an intramural or extramural program for funding research or scholarly activity? The Office of Sponsored Programs & Research (OSPR) offers a variety of services that could help.

  • Feedback from a professional editor: Staff from The Writing Center are available to provide feedback on organizational structure, flow, grammar, readability, etc. Follow this link to sign up for in-person or virtual session using the “OSPR” selection.
  • Coaching and project management: Would your writing benefit from a coach to help set deadlines and/or manage the path to submission? If so, consider signing up for a Scholarly Writing Group (see below) or reach out to Director of OSPR Rachel Beltzhoover (rbeltzhoover@marian.edu) for guidance.
  • Mock review panel: For high-priority extramural funding proposals, the OSPR offers several means of expert review on program design, rigor, content, alignment with funding agency priorities, etc. Please reach out to Director of OSPR Rachel Beltzhoover (rbeltzhoover@marian.edu) for more information.

We are excited to offer the Scholars Writing Group (SWG) Initiative at Marian University, which is supported through a collaboration among the Marian University Writing Center, the Center for Teaching & Learning, and the Research & Scholarship Administration.

The SWG Initiative seeks to provide support for scholarly writing through facilitating multiple group formats that address one or more of the following needs: 1) resources and tips for keeping on track and achieving goals, 2) complimentary access to professional, on-demand editing services, 3) a consistent time and comfortable location (with snacks!) to focus on writing, 4) a group of 3-5 other scholars with whom to build community, and/or 5) a group of colleagues holding one another accountable for meeting goals. SWGs will generally meet weekly for 30, 60, or 90 minutes based on the desires/needs of the group members.
