What is Scholarship?

Marian University honors and values scholarly activity in all disciplines and in all forms. The University handbook defines scholarship in four domains:

  • Advancement of Knowledge (i.e., original research)
    • Example outputs: research article, monograph, presentation, creative work, etc.
  • Integration of Knowledge
    • Example outputs: review article, book, presentation, gallery curation, etc.
  • Application of Knowledge
    • Example outputs: grant writing, journal service, community outreach, consulting, etc.
  • Transformation of Knowledge
    • Example outputs: student mentoring, consulting, development of teaching materials, etc.
