Indianapolis Teaching Fellow Leads Science Team to State Finals

In May, Jeffrey Steinbronn, an Indianapolis Teaching Fellow, will be leading the Thomas Carr Howe Community High School science team to the state finals for the second year in a row.
In May, Jeffrey Steinbronn, an Indianapolis Teaching Fellow, will be leading the Thomas Carr Howe Community High School science team to the state finals for the second year in a row. Steinbronn is a high school chemistry and physics teacher at Thomas Carr Howe Community High School, an Indianapolis Public School on the east side of Indianapolis. He also coaches the science team. In September 2008, he was recognized by the Indiana Association of School Principals as a finalist for the Academic Coach of the Year Award. Steinbronn is currently teaching on a transition to teaching permit; he will earn his initial teaching license in May 2009 when he earns a master of arts in teaching from Marian College as a member of the first cohort of Indianapolis Teaching Fellows. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry in 1983 from Iowa State University and a master’s in business administration from Florida Institute of Technology in 1991. He was also an officer in the Navy for 22 years. About Indianapolis Teaching Fellows: Indianapolis Teaching Fellows, a program of Indianapolis Public Schools, is an innovative partnership between The New Teacher Project and Marian College that trains qualified, knowledgeable college graduates to teach in Indianapolis Public Schools and surrounding high-needs schools in the areas of mathematics, science, Spanish, and special education. Fellows undergo an intensive summer training institute before teaching for two years in a high-need school on transition to teaching permits, while taking evening classes. In May 2009, the first cohort of 35 Indianapolis Teaching Fellows will earn their initial teaching licenses.
