Nearly 90 high school students and their adult chaperones gathered at Marian University, to begin preparations for the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) which will be held at the Indianapolis Convention Center November 21-23. The students comprise the 2013 NCYC Youth Animators, who will provide music and dance entertainment during the conference’s general sessions.
The 89 students met to audition for roles as soloists, featured dancers, readers, and chorus, in productions that will be performed during the conference. The students stayed in residence halls on campus, and rehearsed at the university’s Physical Education Center. Marian University is a Diamond Sponsor of NCYC, the first Diamond Sponsor in the conference’s history.
NCYC is a biannual conference returning this year to Indianapolis. The conference typically draws more than 25,000 high school students, youth ministers, adult chaperones, and youth-service organizations. More than 150 of the 192 dioceses from across the nation are expected to be represented at this year’s conference.
“NCYC and Marian University share a common mission of developing leaders,” President Daniel J. Elsener, Marian University, said. “The students that will converge on Indianapolis in November represent our future, and the group that we will host on campus this week represents the best of the best. I’m looking forward to spending some time with them.”
